Saulius Tomas Kondrotas wrote his “Eye of the Snake” (or, to be more exact, the look of the snake) in 1981, and, by the present moment, it has already been translated into 15 languages (including Russian: “Взгляд змия”) at the very least.
More than that: two films were released, one in Lithuania, one in Hungary, which reveals that the topic is indeed interesting beyond national boundaries.
It is a strange feeling: the author addresses seemingly specific things like christianity or family history, so at first I thought I would throw the book aside saying: what a terrible bore this Mr. Kondrotas.
No: page after page you really get absorbed by his style, you savor every turn of phrase. And you keep strained by the events and the dialogues, really scarce, but concentrated.
