Levinarium, No.

Ernst Křenek is one of the “parallel members” of the Second Viennese School (Zweite Wiener Schule) of music. He formally did not belong to it, but developed rather a similar musical language.

His Symphony No.5 (1949) is very important to understand how music was little by little drifting from tonality.

Listen to it taking into account the fact that it’s the postwar European context, which adds something to the overall understanding of the structure.

His Nos. 1 and 2 are also of interest and available in various recordings.
