Andriej Pietrov (Андрей Петров) is popularly known as the film score composer. The elder generation of the 1960s and 1970s will without any hesitation say he’s just one of the best composers ever.

They will be right to a certain degree. His melodies are bright, sticky and very distinct.

Still his symphonic poem “The Songs of Our Days” (“Песни наших дней”, 1964) was a complete revelation to me.

Here he appears as a serious and deep musical thinker who is pretty in line with his “bigger” brothers Shostakovich and Prokofiev.
