“Tale of Tales” (1979) by Jurij Norštejn (as well as his “Hedgehog”) is thought to be one of the best animations ever.

There is no strict plot, and the film is full of revolutionary findings from the points of view of cinematography and animation.

But for me, it’s probably all we have to know about the Second World War as of the biggest human tragedy ever, and about life in a broader sense.
