Cultural backgrounds exclusively, along with thorough philosophical understanding of what, how, and why, will be able to mend our derailed development.
Not unless humanity does adopt the similar procedures of ecological treatment and full recycling, as it is, say, in Japan, where even cash receipts and screw-tops are re-entered into the process, where new islands are built out of former litter, will we be able to restitute the distorted ties with the Nature and keep our civilizational integrity.
