“Popol Vuh” (founded in Munich in 1969 and headed by Florian Fricke till his death and the end of the project in 2001) is the best Friday evening soundtrack, especially if you still have to work through the night.

Fricke’s interest lay in developing “ethereal” sounds based on ethnic motives of the entire world, no wonder Popol Vuh influenced dozens of bands after.

“In den Gärten Pharaos” (1971) is the album conceived as an undivided whole with the tracks of 6-10 mins at the very least. No wonder there is room both for formal experiment and profound meditation.

Although he himself referred to his own music as Kraut-Rock, the exact style/genre are very hard to describe. He is a “man-style” in himself.

English title: Popol Vuh “In the Garden of the Pharaos”
Original title (German): Popol Vuh “In den Gärten Pharaos”
